Why Massage
First, the initial pleasure provided by massage techniques creates relaxation in the body and in the mind providing relief from stress.
Then massage works to break the pain cycle.  Injury to the muscle causes edema which in turn creates small muscle spasms which force the muscle to stay in a state of contraction.  Chemicals sent to the area to create the edema stay in that area causing a build up of toxins.  As a result most of the blood is forced out of the area and a knot forms.  Knots can cause referral pain, or in other words, pain in parts of the body where knots are not located.
Relaxing knots: One of the main purposes of massage is to break the pain cycle.  Putting pressure on the muscles creates pleasure sensations which actually travel faster than pain sensations so they reach the brain first.  This helps release the tension and spasms.  When the pressure is released it causes a rush of blood to go to the area and push out the toxins.
Injury to muscle comes not only from serious accidents but from living every day life.  Because we perform routine activities day after day our bodies adapt to what we ask them to do and create holding patterns in the body. Holding patterns consist of body actions such as rounded shoulders which can come from leaning over a desk every day, turn out of the legs simply from not walking correctly and many other incongruities.  Massage also lengthens muscles fibers to improve the alignment of the body to preventing injury to muscles and to increase the body’s ability to perform.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a type of Japanese massage. Its purpose is to treat the body as a whole; improving the overall well being of mind, body and spirit while increasing energy and promoting relaxation.

Shiatsu focuses on the body’s Ki or life force. It involves leaning body weight onto certain points along the ki channels of the body. Blocks in the flow of Ki can cause pain, discomfort and an overall feeling of ill health. As the ki lines, and certain points on those lines are addressed, ki is able to flow freely throughout the body.  It can be used to treat the whole body or a specific illness

During Shiatsu the client is fully clothed, no lotion is used and a mat is used instead of a table. Stretching is also incorporated into the massage. The massage soothes and relaxes whilst living you feeling energized.
